The Greatest becomes the Least

Thanksgiving? Touch-Finish! Now, let's be honest... We are all excited about Christmas! This country is always excited for Christmas! We are always ready for it, even before Thanksgiving! (Or, if you're anything like my family, it starts once Halloween is over!) As you know, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

But... why is it the most wonderful time of the year? You all know the feeling! It's kind of hard to describe. You have the music, the shopping, the baking... But is that what makes it so great?

I think not.

Today, as I was reading the Book of Mormon, I was studying in Mosiah ch 2. I had a very specific question in my mind, one that was have been praying about for a good week or so. And, as always, I was able to find an answer in the Book of Mormon, in Mosiah ch. 2:11:

"But I am like as yourselves, subject to all manner of infirmities in body and mind; yet I have been chosen by this people, and consecrated by my father, and was suffered by he hand of the Lord that I should be a ruler and a king over this people; and have been kept and preserved by his matchless power, TO SERVE YOU WITH ALL THE MIGHT, MIND, AND STRENGTH WHICH THE LORD HATH GRANTED UNTO ME."

SHA-BAM! From this scripture, we see that the Lord expects us to serve one another, and to help one another. Why? For-For?

SERVICE=HAPPINESS.

Going along... in verse 17-19...

"And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
Behold, ye have called me your king; and if I, whom ye call your king, do labor to serve you, then ought not ye to labor to serve one another?
And behold also, if I, whom ye call your king, who has spent his days in your service, and yet has been in the service of God, do merit any thanks from you, O how you ought to thank your heavenly King!"

SHA-BAM! My mind started to go, and it made me think of this... We all sort of expect Heavenly Father to serve us. We are always seeking his help. Why? He's the greatest! He's the mightiest! He knows everything! And he's ALWAYS willing to help. But what about us? Are we willing to serve him?? Hence, the phrase, "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."

When we are serving one another, THAT is when we become happy. Why? We are not focused on ourselves. We focus on others. We don't care about ourselves. We only care about others.

The Mightiest of them all was also a Servant. Always remember that.

Hence, why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. :)

Challenge for you all! Go serve someone today. :)

First thing that people should know about me:
I am a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
I am here in Portland, Oregon, a part of the Washington, Vancouver Mission (long story about how that came to be!) sharing my testimony of the things that I have come to be true for myself, about Jesus Christ's Gospel.
I work specifically with the deaf, so hence, I speak ASL. (Best language ever!) I myself am hard of hearing, and have been my entire life. I grew up in a VERY hearing world, but I've always treasured that part of my life. Coming out here on my mission, I've learned SO MUCH about another world that I've always wanted to be a part of. I love the deaf world. :)
Second thing that people should know about me:
I like to make up words. Hence:
SHA-BAM: awesome epiphany. Which, as a missionary, you have a lot of these!
My purpose of this blog is to share some of my personal thoughts and experiences from things that I studied and experienced while serving in the Washington, Vancouver Mission. I hope that the things that I learn will help someone out there.
I know that this Gospel is true. And it's the greatest thing. :)
